FAITH'S LAW

On December 3, 2021, Governor Pritzker signed Faith’s Law, P.A. 102-0676 (HB 1976), into law. Faith’s Law broadens the criminal definition of grooming to encompass not only electronic communications but also written communications, in-person actions, and actions conducted through a third party. Additionally, the law mandates that mandated reporters must report suspected grooming to DCFS under the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

In addition to broadening the criminal definition of grooming, Faith’s Law introduces several new requirements for schools and educators to prevent sexual abuse and misconduct. It adds a new section to the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/22-85.5) addressing sexual misconduct in schools, effective July 1, 2022. This section mandates that all school districts, charter schools, and nonpublic schools develop an employee code of professional conduct policy. This policy must be available on the school’s website.

The Sexual Abuse Response and Prevention Resource Guide, in accordance with Public Act 102-0676, 105 ILCS 5/2-3.1881, serves as a valuable resource to locate help if sexual abuse is suspected, reported, or under investigation.
This guide is designed for students, parents or guardians, and educators, offering crucial information to support not only the primary victim but also yourself. If you are a victim of abuse and feel unsupported by the adults in your life, you can find help and hope in the guide provided below.
