Junior High
Students in Junior High (6th-8th grades) at Christ the King School participate in an array of cross-curricular, technology-enhanced activities that are rooted in strong curricular standards. Students interact with the curricula through debate, role-play, simulation, discussion, learning circles, labs, creation of multimedia presentations and other activities that engage their multiple intelligences and prepare them for real life scenarios.

Language Arts
- Composition of APA- and MLA-style research papers
- Composition of essays, taught from the Lucy Calkins Units of Study, including narrative, persuasive and expository
- Grammar
- Vocabulary study
- Public speaking
Literature
- Reading strategies (inferencing, visualizing, making connections)
- Genre and novel study (whole class and independent)
- Identification, analysis and evaluation of authors’ use of literary devices
- Two book chats per trimester
- Summer reading
Mathematics/Algebra
- Practice, application, problem-solving, projects
- Concepts such as fractions operations, percentages and geometry
- Algebra I concepts, such as solving and graphing multi-step equations
Religion
- Old and New Testaments
- Foundations and Doctrine of the Catholic Church
- Confirmation preparation
- 10 Commandments
- Christian Living
Science
- Basic principles of life science; introduction to physical science and chemistry
- Opportunities to design and conduct experiments
- Scientific experimentation that includes lab safety, scientific tools and measurements, use of simple statistical tools to analyze data and representation of data using graphs, charts and scientific models.
- Laboratory skills, including dissection
Social Studies
- World history
- US history from early civilization to the present
- US and IL State Constitution Tests (Grade 7, required for graduation)
