Kimberly Burke

My educational background:
My educational background has taken lots of twists and turns. It began down at SIUC where I was an education major, then switched to social work. I came home early and ended up with a BA in Sociology from SXU. From there, I continued to DePaul where I received a MA in Sociology. As I pursued a career in criminal justice research, I still thought about becoming a teacher, so I went back to school. I received a MAT with an ESL endorsement from Dominican University. Currently, I am working on a PhD in Educational Leadership-Reading, Language, and Literacy at Concordia. The moral of the story? Always trust your first instinct!

At CK since:
I began teaching 4th grade at CK for the 2013-2014 school year.

Things I love to do:
I love to explore Chicago, go to any type of live entertainment (plays concerts, ballet, etc.), and spend time with my family.

Something you don’t know about me:
I am a super fast reader and a little bit obsessive when I start a good book. The first time I read Gone With the Wind I finished it in two days. Also I ran in 2012 Illinois Marathon in Champaign-Urbana and finished in under five hours which was my goal. I'd like to start running again and do another one before my next big milestone birthday.

What I love about CK:
There is so much I love about CK! Most of all it is the sense of community and belonging to something bigger than myself. CK is such a special place where families, teachers/staff, and students work and learn together in a really fun, authentic way.
