Mary Ellen Mendoza

My educational background:

W. D. P., Certified Wilson Dyslexic Practitioner; M.Ed. Masters of Education, Special Education, National Louis University; B. A. Bachelor of Arts, English Literature, College (now University) of St. Francis.

At CK since:

August, 2021

Things I love to do:

Hang out with my Wire Fox Terrier, Poppie; Play the Piano; Collect Antiques; Garden; Decorate Christmas!

Something people don't know about me:

I am a fourth generation resident of Beverly/Morgan Park. My grandfather and his three brothers worked at the brickyard in Blue Island; (Yes, Illinois Brick Yard 22 was located from 119th to 123rd Streets, between the two sets of railroad tracks!) They arranged for and layed the clinker bricks, transforming Sacred Heart Shrine at 117th and Church Street from a frame to brick structure.

What I love about CK:

One of my favorite authors, Max van Manen, in his popular book, The Tone of Teaching, describes the power of a school’s atmosphere, and writes that “atmosphere is a way of knowing.” How true! The atmosphere of CK manifests Christ’s message of love, care, and acceptance, coupled with bountiful energy, happiness, work ethic, and exuberance in learning!
